We’re originally from Hong Kong, and while our interests and skills lie in providing Chinese cuisine, we’re also very conscious of the history and traditions of the English country inn.
As the needs and tastes of communities and visitors have become more diverse, the typical country inn has changed too. And The Shoulder of Mutton is no exception. Today, our ‘regulars’, many from the adjacent town and surrounding villages as well as from Foxton itself, rub shoulders with boating holidaymakers and tourists from around the world visiting the nearby historic canal locks.
Our aim is to strike a balance between providing the special atmosphere of the traditional village inn and a more formal setting for interesting menus of delicious food. We want everyone to feel equally welcome and valued.
That’s why we offer real flexibility. On the one hand, we have a range of traditional real ales, keg beers and wines from around the world. We frequently have new guest ales, often chosen from independent, local brewers. On the other hand, we provide the highest quality Chinese dishes which you can enjoy in a number of ways: - In our restaurant. - In the bar area. This offers a more ‘suit yourself’ approach and a more informal eating experience. As well as being able to choose dishes from our standard menu, you can also select from the range of smaller dishes that we refer to as ‘Oriental Tapas’. - Through our take away service. So, whether you’re planning to eat with your partner or a group of friends, have a family get-together or a birthday party, or a club or works evening, we have something to suit.
